Wart and Molluscum Treatments
Helping Your Child’s Skin Heal Comfortably and Confidently
At Universal Pediatric Associates, we understand that skin bumps like warts and molluscum contagiosum are common in children — and often more bothersome to parents than they are to kids! Our goal is to provide gentle, effective treatments to help your child’s skin heal safely and quickly.
What Are Warts?
Warts are small, rough bumps caused by a harmless virus (HPV) that lives in the outer layer of the skin. They can appear on the hands, feet, face, or knees and may spread through touch or small skin breaks.
While many warts go away on their own, some can be uncomfortable or stubborn — that’s where we can help.
Treatment options may include:
- Cryotherapy (Freezing): A quick, in-office treatment using liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart.
- Topical medications: Prescription-strength creams or solutions to help remove the wart layer by layer.
- In-office removal: For larger or resistant warts, minor procedures can be done safely in the office.
What Is Molluscum Contagiosum?
Molluscum contagiosum is another common viral skin infection in children. It causes small, smooth, dome-shaped bumps that can appear anywhere on the body. Molluscum is not dangerous, but it can spread through scratching or close contact.
Treatment options include:
- Observation: In many cases, molluscum clears up naturally over several months.
- Topical therapies: Prescription creams that help the immune system fight the virus.
- In-office removal: Gentle methods such as cryotherapy or curettage (removing the bumps) if the lesions are irritated or spreading.
Our Approach
Every child’s skin and comfort level are different. We take the time to discuss the best treatment plan for your child — whether that means careful monitoring, topical treatments, or quick in-office procedures.
Our pediatric team focuses on minimizing discomfort and reducing the risk of spreading the virus to other areas or family members.
